The pattern dyed on this fabric is inspired by the turtle back called Kame even though it looks like repeated symmetrical hexagons. In Okinawa, Japan, turtle back tombs adopted from China in the 16th century, are a common sight. Okinawans reinterpreted the meaning of the turtle shapes, believing the tombs represented a woman's womb. They were adopted at a time when Okinawa, as the Kingdom of the Ryukyus, was an important seafaring nation whose sailors brought back goods and culture from throughout Asia.

This silk fabric was originally made for a Komon Kimono. Crafted in single limited batches, each bow tie is entirely hand-sewn. Dyed using stencils, the fine geometric pattern is equally distributed throughout the fabric. This kimono fabric is exceptional and simply elegant as a casual or formal accessory. Also available as a Necktie and Pocket Square.
